"The 2018 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is the current release, sourced from Howell Mountain, Mount Veeder, Atlas Peak, and Calistoga. Composed entirely of Cabernet Sauvignon, much of it from Clone 7, the wine shows the clone’s hallmark robustness and perfectly ripe fruit. Aromatics of pure cassis, blueberry, and black cherry mingle with tobacco, loamy earth, sagebrush, and a hint of black olive. Full-bodied, it carries silky, supple tannins and crushed-stone minerality, layered with further loamy earth and pressed wildflowers. Exceptional length, tension, and energy support the rich dark-fruit profile. Robert Foley has been making wine in Napa Valley since 1977, learning under Joe Heitz and André Tchelistcheff before shaping the styles at Markham and Pride Mountain, and founding his own Howell Mountain estate in 1998. Known for patient, long-lived reds, he insists that real winemaking begins in the vineyard."

"The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon is also incredibly perfumed, with lots of blue fruits, violets, and spring flower notes to go with a medium to full-bodied style on the palate. It brings this terrific mix of richness and elegance. As with the Claret, it was aged 18-20 months in 30% new French oak." (JD)
