93 Points John Gilman - View from the Cellar
"The 2023 Morgon “Javernières” from Domaine Louis Claude Desvignes is just a touch riper than the la Voûte Saint-Vincent bottling this year, tipping the scales at fourteen percent. The wine is more black fruity in aromatic profile, wafting from the glass in a lovely blend of black cherries, dark berries, sweet stem tones, gamebird, dark soil tones, woodsmoke, peonies and a dollop of fresh thyme in the upper register. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, focused, structured and deep and sappy at the core, with fine balance and grip, lovely nascent complexity and a long, ripely tannic and tangy finish. This will need more cellaring time than the above before it starts to drink with generosity, but it is going to be excellent with a bit of patience."
“If there were a classification of vineyards in Morgon, Côte du Py would be a premier cru and Javernières a grand cru. They are located on the best exposition of the hill, with soil of decomposed schist, and Javernières is a plot within the Côte du Py with a little more clay.” - Desvignes
