“The 2023 Chiroubles “la Grosse Pierre” bottling from Pauline Passot is a simply stunning young Cru Beaujolais, coming in at a classic thirteen percent octane. This is her “young vine” bottling of Chiroubles, as these vines are just reaching fifty years of age! The bouquet is deep and sappy, wafting from the glass in a mix of red and black cherries, pomegranate, sweet stem tones, woodsmoke, gamebird, dark soil tones and a topnote of roses. On the palate the wine is deep, full- bodied and vibrant, with superb depth of fruit at the core, lovely soil undertow, fine-grained tannins and a long, complex and impeccably balanced finish. This is certainly already very tasty, but it will be an even better bottle if given three or four years’ worth of bottle age before pulling corks in earnest.”

“The 2023 Chiroubles La Grosse Pierre has a lovely bouquet with lifted blackberry and redcurrant scents that have real finesse. The palate is medium-bodied, fleshy and ripe, with supple tannins and a silver thread of acidity. This feels very elegant and long on the finish. 2023 is a superb follow-up to the impressive 2022.”
