Domaine de la Terre Rouge - Syrah Les Cotes de l'Ouest Sierra Foothills, California 2016 Wine Enthusiast 92 - Editors Choice - "Full bodied, deeply concentrated and massively structured, this wine is packed tight with just-ripe fruit, smoky spices, cloves and singed sage. A rich blanket of fine-grained tannins wraps those tightly, suggesting several years in the cellar for the wine to mature. Best from 2024." Newsletter Special - $21.99
Always a favorite, Terre Rouge's celebrated Syrahs are consistantly worthy wines to explore. Winemaker Bill Easton has been handcrafting Terre Rouge Wines since the mid-1980's. Bill brings his well-honed palate to the table and has an uncanny ability to create wines that express both power and finesse. The 2016 Cotes de l'Ouest is exceptional with rich flavors of cherry preserves, scorched earth, graphite, plum sauce, savory herbs, black pepper, and vanilla. The texture is absolutely lucious, showing excellent structure, grain-like tannins, and balanced acidity. An incredible value considering Terre Rouge also produced a 100 point estate Syrah from the same vintage.
About Terre Rouge: Terre Rouge refers to the vermillion color Granitic and Volcanic soils that grace the rugged and varying terroirs of this region of Amador County in the Sierra Foothills. High elevation sites up to 3200’ contribute to the complexity of these wines. Estate grown, farmed using green fertilizers and free of any chemical treatments they exhibit a soulful old world charm. Terre Rouge is exclusively Rhone varietals and often blended as in the Southern Rhone as well as some single vineyard bottlings of Syrah and Mourvedre, Grenache Blanc, Viognier and Roussanne. Vigneron Bill Easton also makes another label: Easton, that focuses on non-Rhone Varietals such as Zinfandel, Cabernet and Barbera. The Zins are not alcohol bombs but balanced unique expressions of the wonderful terroir of the Sierra Foothills.

Sourced from the premier blocks of the Les Boucauds, the 2020 Riffault Sancerre 'Les Boucauds' is easily one of the purest expressions of Sauvignon Blanc in the region. The iconic Kimmeridgian soil rich in limestone brings lift and energy to wine with aromas of crisp orchard fruit, delicate white flowers, crisp minerality, and zippy citrus, all balanced beautifully with the addition of 50% French Oak aging which really rounds out the wine adding nuance of toasted brioche and hazelnuts. A perennial favorite from another fantastic vintage for the region, and a must have for any lover of Sancerre.

This is good quality, stretching out in the mouth with tannins that are fully supportive of the project, not getting in the way but cheerleading as the fruit takes its first steps.
