Domaine du Cayron - Gigondas, Southern Rhone, France 2019 Jeb Dunnuck - 94 Points! - Tasted out of bottle, the 2019 Gigondas is another gem and reminds me a little of the 2010, only with a touch more accessibility at this stage. Classic crème de cassis, sappy garrigue, pepper, and basil notes give way to a medium to full-bodied, pure, concentrated Gigondas revealing ripe tannins, terrific balance, and a great finish. As with the 2020, the blend is 78% Grenache, 14% Syrah, 6% Cinsault, and 2% Mourvèdre that was destemmed and brought up in old foudre. Newsletter Special - $28.99
“The ultra-traditional wines that the Faraud sisters, Delphine, Roseline and Cendrine, produce at their family’s domaine are among the most classically proportioned, elegant and complex of the appellation. They also age effortlessly, as extensive research has proven to me. A single, unadorned wine is made here, and it is raised exclusively in large concrete vats and old oak foudres. The value that it delivers is truly amazing given its consistently high quality, which places it among the finest wines not just of Gigondas but of France.” -Josh Raynolds, Vinous Media, February 2020
From the Skurnik Portfolio: Domaine du Cayron (Roseline, Cendrine, and Delphine) are the fifth generation to run this historic 40-acre estate in Gigondas. Most of the Cayron vineyards are found at an altitude of 300-400 meters, sitting in the shadow of the formidable Dentelles de Montmirail, where only about 25% of the Gigondas appellation is found. The family embodies the concept of one domaine, one wine, wherein all of the grapes from the 60+ year old vines go into one single cuvee. Fermented in concrete tanks built into the floor of the winery, the wine is then aged for two years in large foudres that date back more than 50 years. The sisters have an uncanny ability to transmit the aromas and flavors of garrigue (the mix of herbs that grow wild in the south of France) more clearly that perhaps any other winery in the region. The vin de garde’s unique profile speaks so clearly of place, it can only be seen as the true embodiment of the term “terror-driven wine”. Always affable and delightfully energetic, the sisters are too humble to admit what is clear to all who enjoy their wines: this is one of the finest properties in all of the Rhone.
La Adelita - Tequila Extra Anejo The Tasting Panel Magazine - 97 Points! This ultra-premium sipping tequila is made from 100% 5-7 year old premium blue agave from a single estate boutique distillery in the Los Altos region of Jalisco just east of Guadalajara. The agave is meticulously farmed and always hand selected, only the best goes into fermentation. For the Extra Anejo, the distillate is aged in freshly toasted used French oak barrels for a period of at least 48 months before bottling. Tequila at this quality and age level is just incredible, the waves of flavors are mind-bendingly complex -- succulent waves of honeyed heather, sassafras, marzipan, and apricot nectar, flavors of sweet milk chocolate and white-peppered orange blossom excite the palate. A continuing fragrance of exotic spices and vanilla envelops the senses for a memorable Cognac-like sipping experience. This is truly something special.
