Bodega Poesia - Malbec 'Clos Des Andes', Mendoza, Argentina 2016 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate - 92 Points! "Cropped from a cooler and wetter year with lower yields, the 2016 Clos des Andes shows more subtleness and freshness. It's pure Malbec from a vineyard planted ungrafted in 1935 that matured in oak barrels for 16 to 18 months. All the grapes are fermented, and then based on tasting, the wines are classified for the different cuvées. 2016 has produced better wines than many expected given the adverse conditions during the growing season." - Neal Martin Newsletter Special - $13.99
From Neal Martin's feature in Wine Spectator: Bodega Poesia was founded in 2000, when Helene Garcin-Leveque was seeking a property of her own (her family is the proprietor of Clos l’Eglise in Pomerol among others.) She discovered a small vineyard located between Mendel and Cheval des Andes: 13-hectares of Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon, the latter planted on its own rootstock in 1935. The vineyard is comprised of four rows of vines interpolated by a row of olive trees that Helene thought looked like a Garden of Eden and so she christened it “Poesia,” “poetry” in Spanish. Since the inaugural 2001, the wine has been made in a rented winery; however, they use their own vats and barrels during vinification.
The goal is to make a high end wine and to make “the terroir speak.” The vines are cultivated organically, although they are not seeking certification, and they harvest early but ripe in order to capture the acidity, which hovers around a pH of 3.75. The “Clos des Andes” is designed to show the best Malbec on their property, where they feel that the fruit is “less heavy.” It is hand-harvested and fermented in wooden, stainless steel and concrete tanks (50-80 hectoliters in size). After a long cuvaison, the wine undergoes partial malolactic in barrel and then sees 40% to 60% new oak in 300-liter barrels rather than 225 liters.
Domaine de Margalleau - Chenin Blanc - Vouvray Sec, Loire Valley, France 2020 40+ Year Old Vines - Organic Farming - Classic Style Dry Vouvray With Endless Ageability The 2020 Domain de Margalleau is our favorite value in Vouvray, it delivers all the freshness, balance, floral and herbal qualities typical of Vouvray at a fraction of the cost. The 2020 opens up with aromas reminiscent of chamomile, zesty ginger, and lemon tea but with a vibrant flinty mineral core. This is a wine that will age for decades, but in its youth is full of life and vibrant flavors. This is just a fantastic value out of Vouvray!

Bodegas Raul Perez - Bierzo Tinto - 'Ultreia St. Jacques', Castilla y León, Spain 2019 New Vintage - Higher Score! Wine Advocate - 94 Points! "The nose of the 2019 Ultreia Saint Jacques is nothing short of spectacular. It shows the varietal character and the juicy and round style of the Valtuille vineyards. It's harmonious, clean and expressive. They are using more and more stems with long macerations, malolactic in tanks and aging in 30% oak vats (he purchased from Alión) and 70% of the wine in used 225-liter oak barrels for one year. There is only one master blend, which is put into oak vats and bottled by 25,000- to 30,000-bottle lots. In 2019 he produced 110,000 bottles of this wine."
