Here the wood treatment is more moderate though hardly invisible with touches of menthol to the relative elegant red pinot fruit and soft spice scents. The lilting but intense middle weight flavors possess a beautiful mouth feel that is really quite fine with ample minerality adding lift to the delicious and well-balanced finish. There is a bit of wood on the finish as well but the overall integration of the structure is much more complete than in the prior wines. (Drink starting 2019)
Wine Advocate
The 2012 Volnay 1er Cru Les Fremiets comes from a 0.61-hectare parcel of 45-year-old vines. It has a wily, feminine bouquet with ripe red cherry and red currant fruit. The tannins are fine, feeling lithe in the mouth. This is very pure Volnay, weightless on the finish yet with the intensity of fruit you seek. Beautiful. Fortunately there are 10 barrels this year compared to two and a half next.
Wine Spectator
On the delicate side and silky in texture, with dried cherry, strawberry, floral, spice and earth notes. This builds on the palate to the long, saturated finish, echoing dried fruit and savory details. Best from 2017 through 2030. 20 cases imported. — BS
