Ar. Pe. Pe. - Nebbiolo, Rosso di Valtellina Lombardy, Italy 2019 Arrives early next week! “These wines from ARPEPE (an abbreviation of founder Arturo Pelizzatti Perego’s initials) are among the most impressive I tasted… From top to bottom, the wines are deserving of serious attention. The super-traditional style will leave lovers of translucent Nebbiolo weak at the knees… Perhaps most importantly, ARPEPE shows just how pedigreed the wines of Valtellina can be.”—Antonio Galloni, Vinous Newsletter Special - $27.99* (*Best Online Price in the Country)
Steep inclines of primarily rock make for almost treacherous climbs to work in these vineyards. Goes to show the dedication required to work this estate! The Ar Pe Pe Rosso Di Valtallina is made of 100% Nebbiolo from vine ranging from 50 to 100 years of age. The fruit is sourced from the Estates two esteemed vineyards, the Sassella and Grumello, both set of steep rocky terrain with the ideal southern exposure. The wine undergoes a long maceration period of 110 days, then aged in neutral oak for an additional 6 to 12 months. The result is the benchmark for the region. The wine pours a pale ruby red, with orange and rose undertones. There are beautiful aromas of dried violets, wild strawberry, orange zest, leather, tobacco, and rich sense of earth. On the palate the wine is very dry with a powerful tannic structure - red fruit, flowers, and minerals adorn the palate, while the acidity keeps you coming back for more. A must-try for Nebbiolo lovers.
