Newsletter Special - $17.99 Freres Bruno and Jean-Michel Pieaux are fourth generation vignerons in the Village of Chancay in the Vallee de Vaux. In 1938, Jean-Michel’s grandfather was the first member of their family to estate bottle wines from their own vines. Today, they are fashioning taut and lively 100% Chenin Blanc Vouvray from the excellent “tuffeau,” or soft chalk, clay and limestone soils. The vineyards here also contain flint, adding complexity aromas and a core of minerality. The vines are 40 years old on average but the oldest are up to 90 years old. No insecticides are used in the vineyard, grasses are allowed to grow between the vines for biodiversity and soil health, and the estate is certified for High Environmental Value (HVE). Like most of the traditional estates in Vouvray, their naturally cold cellars are carved deep into the limestone hills. Nino Costa - Langhe Nebbiolo, Piedmont, Italy 2020 Incredible Price to Quality Small Estate Langhe Nebbiolo with Complexity and Elegance I've got nothing but praises for this beautiful little Nebbiolo from Nino Costa. Family run since 1851 the Costa family have certainly dialed in their craft, creating wines refective of place with both complexity and varietal elegance. The 2020 Langhe Nebbiolo shows excellent promise for the vintage - the wine pours a gleaming light ruby with aromas of fresh violets, crushed raspberry, black tea, orange zest, and clean minerals. There is a wonderful balance between fruity-floral freshness and depth of earth, both perfectly wound around pleasantly soft tannin and food-worthy acidity. Outstanding Value. Domaine de la Terre Rouge - Syrah Les Cotes de l'Ouest Sierra Foothills, California 2016 Wine Enthusiast 92 - Editors Choice - "Full bodied, deeply concentrated and massively structured, this wine is packed tight with just-ripe fruit, smoky spices, cloves and singed sage. A rich blanket of fine-grained tannins wraps those tightly, suggesting several years in the cellar for the wine to mature. Best from 2024." Newsletter Special - $21.99
